Italian Beef Sandwich Recipe - An All-In-One Dish

Italian beef sandwich recipe seems to be born in Italy for weddings and celebrations as a quick and cheap way to have a good meat dish.

The beef were marinated, roasted, and cut into thin slices, and then accompanied with vegetables and bread rolls.

It's good to eat as a single dish, because it mixes together proteins, fibers and carbohydrates.

Ingredients

  • 4½ pound of boneless beef rump roast
  • 2 cups of (dry red or white) wine
  • 1/4 inch thick
6 garlic cloves, crushed and peeled
6 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 16 6-inch sub rolls or lengths of Italian bread
  • 4 medium sliced onions
  • 4 stalks celery, also sliced
  • 1/2 inch thick on the bias
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 2 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6-8 Italian red hot chili peppers

Preparation

Step 1: To start the Italian beef sandwich recipe, mix together 2 tablespoons of salt, 2 teaspoons of dried oregano, and the dried thyme in a small bowl and place the mixture all over the beef. Then mix white or red wine (Italian wine vinegar can be used too), 1 sliced onion, and the garlic, and put it on the meat to make it marinate in the refrigerator from 4 hours to overnight.

Step 2: Preheat oven to 350° F. Remove the meat from refrigerator, and rub with 2 tablespoons of the olive oil. Place the meat with its marinade in a large pan, and roast about 1 hour and a half, flipping the meat once during cooking. Remove, and let the meat rest 15 minutes before slicing, keeping the cooking juices in the pan. Slide the sliced rolls into cooling oven to be quite toasted.

Step 3: Meanwhile, heat the other 4 tablespoons of olive oil in a large frying pan with the remaining onions and the celery. Cook until the onions begin soft and golden. Season with the remaining salt and remaining dried oregano. Cut peppers and mix them with the onions, and cover the pan, stirring occasionally, until the peppers are tender (8 to 10 minutes). Make very thin meat slices (also using a meat slicer).

Step 4: To finish the Italian beef sandwich recipe, add meat slices to the peppers into the frying pan, along with any juices left in the roasting one. Cook until the meat is just heated through, about 3 or 4 minutes. Put the meat with peppers and onions, inside the toasted rolls.
